Preparation

Decisions, Decisions, Decsions
The first thing I have to decide is what my export strategy
is going to be. I can export both linen and pottery, but can only develop
one industry at a time. Which one should I go with first? Here are the
facts:
Pottery - To export 2500 pottery/year I will need to
build 4 clay pits, 5 potters, and a storage yard. The total cost of
these structures plus opening the trade route to Dunqul would be 1030
debens and I would need 98 workers. If I pay three debens above the
Kingdom rate, my yearly wage bill would be 323 debens. I would receive
2625 for the pottery so my yearly income from pottery would be 2625
- 323 = 2302 debens/year. This could be increased by blessings from
Ra or Ptah.
Linen - To export 2500 linen/year I need to build 5
weavers and a storage yard. The total cost of these structures plus
opening the trade routes to Dakhla and Itjtawy would be 1795 debens
and I would need 66 workers. Yearly wages would amount to 218 debens.
In addition, I would have to buy 2500 flax/year at a cost of 1350 debens.
I would receive 4000 for the linen so the yearly income would be 4000
- (1350+218) = 2432 debens/year. Again, blessings are possible from
Ra or Ptah. (Ptah can be more helpful with linen than pottery.)
Given the above, I willl go with linen. Despite the
higher initial cost, it is the best choice because it needs fewer workers.
This means the industry can get up to full speed faster.
Pre - Flight Check
Before doing anything else, I pause the game and:
Then I set the game speed to 10% and:
- Place the Festival Square in some out-of -the-way place for the
time being.
- Order a Common Festival for the Patron God.
- Put in the road system for the housing block, industrial area, and
the fishing wharves.
Next, we'll take a look at what we've got so far, and take the city
through the first couple of months.
